The mission of The Mundial Group’s advocacy campaign, READ Mundial, is to encourage families to read together with children of all ages. We are committed to engaging, entertaining, and educating families with the intention of making a positive quality of life change for all youngsters. Our intention is to close the achievement gap and be a catalyst for positive change in the community.
About the Campaign
Join the reading craze with Fútbol Mundial and Pelé! Create a time everyday where you and your family will read together. Routines and rituals around reading communicate that literacy is important and valued.
How do you get started?
- Look at your family schedule. Decide what days and what time family reading can occur. Try to make it the same time so you can develop a routine.
- Go to the library or bookstore and pick out non-fiction materials. Of course, you should include Fútbol Mundial as one of your weekly selections.
- Sign up on line at futbolmundial.net and make a pledge. Example: My family and I will read 25 minutes a day, Monday-Friday.
- Create the mood. Turn of the television and radio. Get cozy spots in one room. Set a timer at first until you create the habit. Pretty soon, the time will grow on its own because you will lose yourself in your reading.
- Log on to futbolmundial.net and record the date and how many minutes you read as a family. For example if the entire family read from 5:00pm-6:00pm, you would record 60 minutes. Watch the minutes grow!
- Enjoy this time. Family time is important and reading together nurtures you and your family members. Remember, the family that reads together; succeeds together.
Ideas for Family Reading:
- Read and discuss current soccer events in Fútbol Mundial.
- Share favorite nonfiction text with family members.
- Read a magazine or the newspaper and pass it around the table. Everyone can take a turn.
- Each family member can read their own choice of material.
- One family member can be the “guest reader” for the day and everyone else can listen.
- Read from a novel, one chapter each day.
- Visit the library and read as a family there. Bring home new reading materials for the following week
